LED TALKS ft. EVA; LIFE IN INDIA

                                                                  INDIA
GEOGRAPHICAL CLASSIFICATION
India, officially the republic of India is a country in the southern region of the Asian continent, Headed by a president, His Excellency President Pranab Mukherje with the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The republic of India, from the records is the seventh largest country in the world by area and the second most populous nation, with over 1.2 billion people. It is bothered by the very well known third largest ocean in the world, the Indian ocean, hence the reason for the name.
It is made up of 29 states of which New Delhi is its capital and the city of Mumbai, the largest city in all India. Its official language is Hindi, which is the fourth most spoken language in the world. Other languages like Telugu, Sanscrit and Tamil are used in some parts of India such as Andhra Pradesh where Telugu is the leading language even over Hindi which is the country’s official language.
India is a country with a very harsh weather condition, with temperature that goes as low as -4 degree Celsius and goes as high as 47 degree Celsius in some season of the year. This is the reason that majority of the buildings are not roofed as the daked even to the top open air floor due to the harsh weather conditions that sometimes in the year even curses lost of lives and property.
It is no longer news that India is one of the countries with the fastest growing economy and its continent Asia, the continent with the fastest growing economy. The currency used for business transaction i.e. buying and selling is the Indian Rupee which goes for a conversion rate of a dollar for 64 to 65 rupees.
Notwithstanding the high conversion rate of the Indian rupee, it is yet considered to be one of the most valuable currencies in all Asia.
                 RELIGION AND TRADITION
The people of India are very religious people and hold on strongly to their traditions. This is the reason that despite they colonized by Great Britain, and got their independence in the year 1947, propelled by freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, their ancient Traditions and Customs are still valid till date.
They are very nice, caring, lovely and very friendly but with strong traditions and strange ones in some parts that will make you want to say this people aren’t friendly at all. But as I said earlier, it’s only in some parts of India; go to cities in India with cultural diversity, harboring foreigners from all around the world, and my dear you will not help but feel better with the kind of experience you will get.
Most of these traditions you will find are traditions related to either their women or their buffaloes and cows. Take for example, in a place like Andhra Pradesh, it’s not allowed to date before marriage as parents especially fathers have the responsibility of suggesting husbands for their daughters.
This is why in a class setting boys sit separately from the girls. Even in their festivals, boys sit one side and girls the other side.
This limits socializing with the opposite sex as one is not allowed to go closer or even have outings with the opposite sex.
As for the buffaloes, their slaughter is highly prohibited in most parts of India as from the ancient they were seen as gods. Even of the present in some parts of India, they are still seen as gods.
This has gone so far that in some states in India, the government has placed a ban on the slaughter of both buffaloes and cows. To show how seriously they are taken in India.
At least you should know that the tradition of shaking hands is not for Indians as Indians Salaam thereby dissolving any need for body contacts between persons.
Anyways, this tradition is fast diminishing as the system of shaking hands is already taking over most parts of India. A.G Gardener the British Author will say, that the system of shaking hands is the most acceptable method of greeting in the world.
Indians did not accept it in the past but with the present level of acceptance of the practice, the future holds nothing less than a complete acceptance of the practice.
Talking about religion, Hinduism has the highest follow with about 79.8% of the population, Islam follows with about 14.2%, Christianity which has the highest follow in the world gets as little as 2.3%, then Buddhism, Sikhism and other religions take the rest of the population.
The people of India are also known to be very much inclined in the usage of herbal medicine. This is as a result of the high level of diversity in plant species and also its exploration.
They are also known to be very good at the invention and usage of technology such as Information technology and hospital technology. It is the combination of these two that exposes the reason anybody from any part of the world with health issues will ask or be advised to be sent to India for treatment as they will expect to receive the best treatments for even the poorest hospitals in India offer quality treatment.
This also contributes to their Ranking as the world best in the study of medicine and drug related courses and also top rankers in IT invention and its usage.
This brings us to talk on education.
               EDUCATION
Education, one of the areas of development in India which seems to be the most patronized by external bodies is of great quality as both Government and private bodies invest much in it.
Anyways it faces some difficulties such as the medium of communication for foreign clients and then the increasing population of Indians.
There are two mediums of Communication you will find in most Indian schools, one is English, while the other is dependent on the Language of the people of the community where these schools are located.
Take for example a community of Telugu speakers. Any school located here will take Telugu as a second language as they will expect to encourage the people of these communities to accept education and then enhance learning for them.
There are two types of schools you will find in India, the Indian Government and Private schools, then the International schools.
The Indian schools resume at June, and for a school like mine will not have a holiday till the April of the next year as we do start the second semester a day after the end of the first semester exams.
School fees in these schools fall within the range of 25 000-200 000 rupees per annum. This is excluding other miscellaneous.
Indian Schools make use of the following educational system:
1.       Preschool, which is not compulsory but necessary.
2.       Private play school for children between the ages of 18 months to 3 years
3.       Kindergarten, which is divided into lower Kindergarten for 3-4 year olds and Higher Kindergarten for 4-5 years old
4.       Primary school which comprises 1st to 5th grade for children between the ages of 6-10 years
5.       Middle school which comprises 5th to 8th grade for children between the ages of 14-16 years
6.       Secondary school which covers the 8th and the 9th grade for children between the ages of 14-16 years
7.       Higher secondary or Pre-university for the 11th and 12th grade for the ages of 16-17 years.
8.       Undergraduate consists of BA courses which lasts only three years and Engineering and specialized courses that may take a longer.
9.       Post graduate which is a one year course.
The second type of schools, the International schools follow same system as Indian schools. As for those that do not do so. They adopt the system of the country concerned.
Resumptions in these schools fall within August to January. Cost of fees fall within the range of 5,000-22,000 dollars. Very costly you will say, but I bet you that Indian parents prefer to send their wards to this kind of schools because of the multicultural nature of the schools and as their wards will get to meet with students from all around the world thereby enriching them with exposure and helping them meet civilization face to face.
          FOOD
Now down to the factor that I know will be like a burden on the minds of so many, some people may even consider it first before concluding on moving over to India. This is the feeling that one may not survive in India because of the nature of Indian food.  But it is actually false. As much as I agree that there are some strange Indian cuisines, there are still so many that are similar to your country’s food.
Except you want to keep trying out their delicacies, then you have to be patient for it may take longer to adapt. By the way, Indians are not left out in the preparation of intercontinental delicacies like fried rice and rest of them.
Some examples of Indian foods are Chicken Biryani, Chapatti, Chicken, Chaat papri, Barfi etc.
Anyways, there is one thing you need to take note of, and that is the fact that the regions you find yourself matters a lot as there are variations in the method of preparation of these various dishes from state to state, because of the already spoken about diversity in culture in India. For example, in states like Andhra Pradesh, the people here care so much about spicing and so caring for lunch while you find yourself in this place will mean getting ready to struggle with the so much spicing.
Not bad anyway, these spices are recommended by dietitians to be highly nutritious
